dc.description.abstract | Introducción: La pandemia por COVID-19 implicó la modificación de todo el sistema sanitario incluida la práctica quirúrgica pediátrica, observándose retrasos en el diagnóstico e incremento de la morbilidad. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar su influencia sobre la incidencia de apendicitis perforada y sus complicaciones en niños durante los primeros 9 meses de pandemia en comparación con el mismo periodo del año previo.
Métodos: Estudio observacional, transversal analítico; incluyó pacientes menores de 15 años con apendicitis aguda y que precisaron cirugía de urgencia durante los periodos de abril a diciembre del 2019 (grupo prepandemia) y abril a diciembre del 2020 (grupo pandemia). Se analizó la incidencia de apendicitis perforada en cada grupo, así como complicaciones posquirúrgicas, estancia hospitalaria, reingresos, síntomas asociados y variables demográficas.
Resultados: Se incluyeron 108 pacientes en cada cohorte, no hubo diferencias significativas en edad (p = 0.799), sexo (p = 0.165) ni síntomas asociados como dolor abdominal (p = 0.783), fiebre (p = 0.890), nauseas/vómitos (p = 0.784) y diarrea (p = 0.685). La proporción de apendicitis perforada fue 39.8 % en el grupo pandemia y 34.3 % en prepandemia (p = 0.398). No se encontraron diferencias en complicaciones postquirúrgicas (p = 0.394), estancia hospitalaria (p = 0.189) ni reingresos (p = 0.249).
Conclusiones: La incidencia de apendicitis perforada y las complicaciones de la apendicectomía en niños no se vio modificada por la pandemia por COVID-19. | es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | Background:The COVID-19 pandemic implied the modification of the entire healthcare system including paediatric surgical practice, with delays in diagnosis and increased morbidity. The aim of the study was to analyze its influence on the incidenceof perforated appendicitis and its complications in children during the first 9 months of the pandemic compared to the same period of the previous year.Methods:Observational, cross-sectional analytical study; included patients younger than 15 years withacute appendicitis who required emergency surgery during the periods from April to December 2019 (pre-pandemic group) and April to December 2020 (pandemic group). The incidenceof perforated appendicitis in each group was analyzed, as well as postoperative complications, hospital stay, readmissions, associated symptoms and demographic variables.
Results:There were 108 patients included in each cohort, there were no significant differences in age (p = 0.799), sex (p = 0.165) or associated symptoms such as abdominal pain (p = 0.783), fever (p = 0.890), nausea/vomiting (p = 0.784) and diarrhea (p = 0.685).
